Today was the first real experimental day! Started the morning around 8am and got into the lab around 9:30. From there it was time to play with some fishies. Ended up pairing 5 prawn per aquarium, with 10 snails, 5 biomphalaria and 5 bulinus species in each. They also contained at least 1, and up to 4, M. vollenhovenii filtering in the rest of the prawns with M. macrobrachion. One of the professors had the knowledge that these two species have similar consumption patterns, leading us to not care as much about the species, but care more about if the prawns can survive in the habitat of the aquarium, which was the purpose of this control experiment. We used feed with snails in two of the aquariums ( as the control groups) and then also used just feed with the snails. These will lead us to the best possible results for the next phase of the trial because we are looking for the most suitable habitat. Other than that I found a pretty sick new food joint so I got dinner for about 1.75 USD. Tomorrows gonna be a early one so, da yie!
