Biological Side - Schistosomaisis

We will be sampling and testing fecal and urine samples.  We will use kato-katz as well as urine filtration techniques to isolate the parasites and use gold-standard microscopy to visualize the parasites.

Biological Side - Prawns

We are first isolating parasitized and unparasitized snails and blindly testing if prawns will consume both forms of snails.  This will act as a proof of concept stage so we can ensure consumption of parasitized snails.

Economic Aspect

A major portion of this study will be measuring the effect the introduction pf prawns has on a local fishing community.  With this introduction, we hope to not only see a difference in the prevalence of schistosomiasis but also the spending habits in the local community.
